Resident Opportunities
Educational:
Ventures in Peace will provide support for all of the following options.1) Complete High School:
Students may correspond with previous high school: classes, homework, projects, tests, etc. are completed under guidance at Ventures in Peace while the former school reviews, grades, and issues diploma.
2) Distance Learning:
Student may obtain a high school diploma through established relationships with Indiana University or Blueprint Education.
3) General Educational Development (GED):
The Lifelong Learning Center in Missoula offers preparatory classes and testing to obtain a GED as well as a wide variety of non-credit vocational, technical, and recreational courses.
4) AA Degree or Occupational and Technical Education:
The University of Montana’s College of Technology offers 35 program areas across 5 academic departments: Applied Arts & Sciences, Applied Computing & Electronics, Business Technology, Health Professions, and Industrial Technology.
5) Undergraduate Degree:
The University of Montana is the state's leading liberal arts institution, offering students 52 undergraduate degrees, 56 master's degrees, and 13 doctoral degrees. The University consists of the College of Arts & Sciences, Davidson Honors College, College of Technology, and 7 professional schools: Business Administration, Fine Arts, Education, Forestry, Journalism, Pharmacy & Allied Health Sciences, and Law. UM also offers distance learning programs.
6) Vocational Studies:
At Ventures in Peace, residents will be learning about and working with each other in the areas of: culinary arts, personal finance, organic gardening/farming/food production, greenhouse propagation, household organization, alternative energy study/installation/maintenance, and eventual production and marketing of alternative energy devices as an educational initiative.
Recreational and Personal:
1) Physical Exercise:
Residents will be involved in a number of different recreational opportunities: hiking, biking, sailing, swimming, skiing, dancing, yoga, martial arts, volleyball, weight training, etc.
2) Creative Arts:
Missoula is abundant with many options for self-expression through visual and performing arts. Residents will also be included in special cultural activities and field trips.
3) Personal Exploration:
All residents at Ventures in Peace will complete a two-day experiential workshop, Resurfacing ® , based on the Directors’ extensive personal training and experience. Personal work, at this stage, is often intertwined with family relationships. We also invite the families of our residents to schedule this workshop for themselves.
